Many people have had their very first private lesson with me or have bought lessons with me as gifts for others. I have always felt SO honored and touched by this gesture.

Jenny provides:

  • Music
  • Sound: I travel with a gutsy mini speaker
  • Location options (if in NYC)
  • A Safe Space: Come to jam, drill, fine tune, work out, be inspired and have homework for later to continue your practice.
  • Type of lesson: The type of lesson offered differs greatly based on what you come in with: your questions, requests, how you feel that day, where you are in your practice, energy level, and so on.
  • Open Conversation: Private lessons are part of continuing our practice. Consider our lesson as an open conversation to be continued. You can ask me questions later or share something that randomly came up later in your dance. Trust me, once we've had a lesson I will care and be curious about where you go and what you find in your practice.

You:

  • Schedule: please provide your schedule
  • Payment: provide payment for lesson and space used (when applicable)
  • Water: bring water
  • Notes: bring pen/paper to take notes if wanted
  • Attire: wear clothes/shoes you are comfortable dancing in
  • Questions: bring in questions or just be ready to dance (questions and requests of what you want to work on are NOT required)
  • Be On Time: We all juggle with time, please allow yourself time to be on time to respect my time and mainly your own.
Jenny is an amazing instructor who pulls from a wealth of experience to help her students become better dancers. She helped me not only to hone my skills but to become more comfortable with my body movement and more confident all around. I owe a lot of my skill to her incredible instruction.

Psh, we dancers get around. Of the dozen or so instructors I've experienced you're my favorite. I teach too (not dancing of course), so just from the viewpoint of a fellow teacher enjoying the craft of another you're pretty amazing. Passion + Fun + Clarity + Knowledge + Personality = I'm honored to be your student.

Jennifer Sowden is a fantastic dancer and teacher who knows how to break down the more complex components of her lessons into simple steps that even a COMPLETE beginner (such as myself) could understand and replicate. She makes new steps and styles approachable and FUN! Definitely check her out for a lesson or a series - you'll love her

...a lot of people have commented on my progress and I'm super grateful for your help.
I'm definitely giving credit where credit is due, but people already seem to know
what a great teacher you are :o) Thanks so much!!

I would tell prospective students that you provide criticism in a constructive manner, you give the student material that they can work on outside of the lesson and on the social floor and manage to do it all in a fun and comfortable atmosphere. From the lesson I not only learned technique but also improved my dancing format and composition as a whole.

Jenny is a fantastic teacher.  She's great at targeting private lessons to your skill level and particular goals you may have.  She's excellent at building up and emphasizing your unique strengths and style, while also providing constructive feedback on things you can improve.  I've consistently been amazed that I can learn so much in an hour.  Plus, she's just so much fun to work with.  I recommend her highly.
                                                                                                                 - Dennis, New York, NY

I've been taking Jenny's BROOKLYN SWINGS classes--along with occasional private lessons--for a year now, and Jenny is wonderful in both presenting the "big picture" to beginners, and then showing intermediates the finer points that add grace and style. Plus, she's great fun!

I often get nervous in private dance lessons, but working with Jenny is such a joy. She always puts me at ease, even when I'm pushing the boundaries of my dance. Jenny has helped me expand the possibilities of my dancing and given me the confidence to compete.

Jenny was my first introduction to blues and am thankful for that hot NY day! I am impressed by her ability to 'manage a classroom' of multi-level learners, but she is also a dedicated private instructor that can dig deep into your dance learning needs to uncover a unique root skill for you to improve. These golden nuggets are usually not specific dance moves, but intangible concepts and intention that she brings to life for you. Jenny helped me more deeply understand my movement and took me to the next level of blues appreciation.
